Yen nears 38 year low at 161.7 per dollar as Japan shifts to quieter stance and shorts hit 145818 contracts
The yen briefly traded near 161.7 per dollar on June 22, close to its 1986 low of 161.96, as Japanese officials stayed unusually quiet and Finance Minister Kogure reiterated only that Japan will respond in a timely manner. CFTC data shows net yen shorts rose to 145818 contracts, the highest since July 2024.
