Tether-backed Oobit integrates USDT with Brazil's PIX, opening access to 170 million users
Tether-backed payments app Oobit has connected Brazil's PIX network to its platform, enabling near-instant conversion between Brazilian reais and USDT on Solana (Es9vMFrzaCERmJfrF4H2FYD4KCoNkY11McCe8BenwNYB). Users can deposit reais, receive Tether, and send PIX payments to anyone on the country's instant-payment system, which reaches roughly 170 million Brazilians.
The move targets a market where stablecoins are already widely used. A large share of Brazil's PIX-to-crypto flows is concentrated in dollar-pegged tokens, often used by locals to store value amid volatility in the real.
Competition is intensifying. Earlier this year, Brazil's central bank opened PIX rails to Base (0x833589fcd6edb6e08f4c7c32d4f71b54bda02913). Circle has also been expanding regional distribution of its dollar tokens through a partnership with Nubank. Oobit's pitch is a single tap-to-pay app that combines on- and off-ramps with PIX payments in one place.
