South Korea's KOSPI Sinks 10% in One Day, Triggers Circuit Breaker
South Korea's KOSPI tumbled 10% on Tuesday, prompting a marketwide circuit breaker that suspended trading for 20 minutes. After trading resumed, losses intensified, leaving the benchmark to close at 8,203.84.
Heavyweights bore the brunt of the selloff. Samsung Electronics slid more than 10%, while SK Hynix sank over 12%.
The sharp drop comes after a roughly 200% rally over the past year. Analysts pointed to stretched valuations and elevated retail leverage as key vulnerabilities. Foreign investors sold close to 5 trillion won of KOSPI shares in a single session.
