UnitedHealth plans $3 billion AI investment in 2026–2027, including bots that call doctors’ offices

UnitedHealth Group, the largest US health insurer, said it will invest $3 billion in artificial intelligence over 2026 and 2027. The company has already deployed AI for reading clinical summary notes, analyzing customer-service calls, and placing outbound calls to doctors’ offices to book appointments. Executives said the AI rollout is delivering a 2to1 return by cutting manual work, improving efficiency, reducing patient friction and lowering costs.
