What Is STBL (STBL) and How Does It Work?

STBL is the governance token of a new stablecoin protocol that aims to be “Stablecoin 2.0” by combining real-world asset (RWA) backing with a yield-splitting mechanism.

The protocol introduces a three-token system:

1. USST — a dollar-pegged stablecoin, minted when users deposit tokenized real-world assets.

2. YLD — a non-fungible token (NFT) or certificate that represents the yield (interest or returns) generated by the collateral backing USST. This yield is separated or “stripped” from the principal.

3. STBL — the governance token. Holders of STBL can vote on protocol parameters such as what assets are accepted as collateral, risk parameters, fee settings, upgrades, etc.

STBL’s key claim to innovation is letting users keep earning yield from real-world asset collateral while using or deploying the stablecoin liquidity (USST) in DeFi or payments. Traditional stablecoins tend to capture yield on reserves at the issuer level; STBL aims to pass that yield back to users via YLD.

What Problem Does STBL Solve Compared to Traditional Blockchains?

STBL solves the yield capture problem that most traditional stablecoins and blockchains face. In existing stablecoin systems, issuers like USDT or USDC often retain the yield generated from the reserves backing the tokens, leaving end users with only liquidity but no share of that income. STBL separates the principal (USST stablecoin) from the yield (YLD NFT), allowing users to spend or deploy stablecoins in DeFi while still earning yield from the underlying real-world assets. This dual benefit bridges the gap between stability and income, something traditional blockchain stablecoins haven’t achieved.

It also addresses the capital efficiency and composability challenge seen in legacy designs. Traditional blockchains often lock value to secure stablecoins or decentralized finance positions, reducing flexibility. STBL’s model ensures users don’t have to choose between yield and utility. By enabling collateralized stablecoins that remain usable while the yield is tokenized separately, STBL increases capital efficiency, enhances DeFi integration, and improves user incentives. This makes it more adaptable and scalable compared to earlier blockchain stablecoin models.

When Did STBL Protocol Launch?

STBL was founded by Reeve Collins, co-founder of Tether, along with Dr. Avtar Sehra as CEO and Bundeep Singh Rangar as co-founders. The governance token STBL was officially launched via a Token Generation Event (TGE) on September 16, 2025, with listing on Binance Alpha. The launch followed a pre-seed funding round led by Wave Digital Assets, a digital asset manager with over US$1B under management.

What Is the STBL Token Utility?

The STBL token is the governance asset of the STBL protocol. Holders use it to vote on key parameters such as what collateral types are accepted, stability ratios, fee models, and protocol upgrades.

How to Mint or Redeem USST Stablecoin on STBL

To mint USST stablecoins on the STBL protocol, you deposit approved tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) such as tokenized U.S. Treasuries, USDY, OUSG, or BlackRock’s BUIDL fund into the platform’s smart contracts. In return, the protocol issues two assets: USST, which is pegged to the U.S. dollar and can be freely used in payments or DeFi, and a YLD NFT, which represents the yield generated by the deposited collateral. This yield-stripping design ensures that users can deploy stable liquidity while still keeping ownership of the income from their collateral.

Redeeming USST involves reversing the process. Users return their USST tokens, and, if applicable, the corresponding YLD NFT, to the protocol to unlock the underlying collateral. Once the redemption is completed, the protocol burns the USST and YLD, releasing the original RWA tokens back to the user. This mint-and-redeem cycle maintains the dollar peg of USST, while providing transparency and flexibility, as the collateral can always be reclaimed through the smart contracts that govern the system.

STBL operates as a multi-chain protocol, with its governance token (STBL) and stablecoin (USST) initially deployed on Ethereum for security and liquidity, while expanding to other major ecosystems like BNB Smart Chain and Solana through cross-chain bridges.
