Dollar nears two-week high as $107 oil boosts yields and Fed hike bets

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Oil's spike toward $107 lifted US inflation concerns, pushing 10Y yields through 5% and reinforcing near-certain Fed hike pricing. Risk appetite weakened alongside equity declines, supporting broad USD strength; EUR, GBP and JPY softened versus the dollar. The key market transmission is tighter financial conditions via higher yields and a firmer dollar, increasing cross-asset volatility into Fed and BoJ decisions.

The dollar index climbed to a near two-week high as a jump in oil prices pushed up U.S. Treasury yields and reinforced expectations that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates this week. Markets are pricing a roughly 93% chance of a hike on Wednesday, which would be the first in more than three years, according to CME’s FedWatch tool. The euro, sterling and yen all weakened against the dollar. Oil rose to $107 a barrel after Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis attacked Saudi Arabia and Gulf-Iran talks were postponed, adding to inflation concerns and helping drive the 10-year yield above 5%.
