Weak monsoon threatens India’s 2026-27 coffee output as key growing areas see rainfall deficits of up to 45%
India’s 2026-27 coffee season faces a heightened risk of lower output as a weak southwest monsoon brings significant rainfall deficits in major growing belts. Rainfall in Karnataka’s key districts—Kodagu, Chikmagaluru and Hassan—and Kerala’s Wayanad was 29%-45% below normal as of June 17, hurting berry development, worsening pest attacks such as white stem borer, and disrupting farm operations. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s office in Mumbai has forecast production to fall 4% year on year to about 3.68 lakh tonnes, while the Coffee Board has yet to issue an official outlook.
