India’s May crude oil imports rise to 21.6 million tons as import bill jumps to $18.7 billion

India’s crude oil imports in May rose 1.41% from a year earlier to 21.6 million metric tons, while the import bill surged 81.6% to $18.7 billion. LNG import volumes fell 21% to 2,266 million metric standard cubic metre per day, but the bill was unchanged at $1.1 billion. The figures underscore higher energy procurement costs amid geopolitical tensions, according to provisional data from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC).
