TripleA Hacker Sends 4,970 ETH (US$12.4M) to Tornado Cash

AI Market Summary
Funds linked to the TripleA breach were consolidated and deposited into Tornado Cash, signaling active laundering and reducing near-term recovery prospects. While the flow size is modest versus broader Ethereum liquidity, the use of a mixer can heighten compliance and regulatory sensitivity around ETH-based transactions and DeFi rails. The news is idiosyncratic to a single exploit but adds to ongoing security and AML risk overhang.

ChainCatcher reported that Salus monitoring data shows the attacker linked to the TripleA crypto payment service breach has moved 4,970 ETH, worth about US$12.4 million, into the mixer Tornado Cash. The hacker is believed to have looted TripleA's treasury in July, with publicly cited losses estimated at roughly US$11.8 million. After bridging the proceeds to Ethereum and swapping tokens, the attacker split the funds into two intermediary addresses on Sept. 6. The two streams were later consolidated into a single wallet and deposited to Tornado Cash in batches, including 49 transfers of 100 ETH and seven transfers of 10 ETH. Salus said part of the funds trace back to earlier withdrawals from the mixer.
