Brazil’s Largest Crypto Exchange Mercado Bitcoin Hit by Cyberattack, Suspected Losses Top $40 Million

Mercado Bitcoin has confirmed a security breach on Nov. 2 and temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while investigating the incident. Blockchain security firm Hypernative identified more than $40 million in suspicious transfers across at least 10 blockchains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and Tron. The exchange says the attack was contained quickly, no customer data was compromised and customers will not suffer losses. Mercado Bitcoin has published wallet addresses linked to the suspicious transfers to help with tracking and recovery. The $40 million figure has not been confirmed by the exchange, and the attack method remains unknown.
