Barça Mobile to Roll Out Stellar-Based In-App Wallet Built with Wirex and Crossmint

FC Barcelona is expanding its digital footprint into payments. On August 5, 2026, Barça Mobile—the club's official mobile telecom service—said it is developing an in-app digital wallet that runs on the Stellar blockchain. The build brings together three parties: Wirex will provide payment processing and card services, Crossmint will supply wallet technology and handle user onboarding, and the Stellar Development Foundation will underpin the settlement layer. Wirex's role includes its status as a Visa and Mastercard member institution, positioning the product as a hybrid of traditional card rails and blockchain settlement. The Wirex–Crossmint partnership was formed in late 2025 to develop smart-wallet infrastructure and transaction capabilities, with the Barça Mobile rollout positioned as the first major consumer deployment of their combined stack. Barça Mobile launched in April 2025 and is operated by New Era Visionary Group under an MVNO agreement with Orange, meaning it resells access to Orange's network rather than building its own infrastructure. The service already reaches more than 170 countries via travel eSIM features. The wallet is expected to support in-app payments and rewards, with cross-border value transfers highlighted as a core use case. The company is framing the effort as a different model for blockchain adoption in sports: Stellar operates in the background, without requiring users to purchase fan tokens or connect external crypto wallets, while aiming to deliver faster and lower-cost payments inside an app users already use. Stellar is designed for low-cost cross-border transfers and has been used for fintech settlement and remittance corridors for years.
