CFTC Chair Michael Selig Calls Utah 12 Felony Kalshi Charges Blatant Overreach

CFTC Chairman Michael Selig on Oct. 29 called Utah criminal charges against Kalshi cofounders a blatant overreach and pledged to defend federal jurisdiction. Utah filed 12 felony gambling promotion counts on Oct. 28, two days after the CFTC sued to block state enforcement. The agency argues event contracts are swaps under the Commodity Exchange Act.
