Brazil's Central Bank to Roll Out Real-Time Crypto Threat Alert System After $180M Hack
AI Market Summary
Brazil's central bank is rolling out a real-time crypto threat alert system after a $180M cyberattack where stolen funds were partially converted into BTC and USDT. The initiative, plus a planned 24-hour preventive hold on transfers above $10,000, signals tighter operational and compliance controls for local exchanges and banks. Near-term, this may reduce transaction velocity and increase friction for large on/off-ramp flows.

Brazil's central bank has built a real-time early warning system designed to detect and respond to cryptocurrency-related threats, and is working with digital asset security firm Hypernative to help banks and local crypto exchanges identify attacks, coordinate incident response, and trace funds, according to Odaily Planet Daily.
The push follows a major breach in July 2025, when hackers exploited a software vulnerability at financial middleware provider C&M and stole $180 million from financial systems. Part of the proceeds was routed through exchanges and converted into Bitcoin and USDT.
Regina Pedroso, executive director of the Brazilian Tokenization Association (ABToken), said integration is set to begin within the next two weeks, with Foxbit and Mercado Bitcoin taking part in the rollout. Authorities have already completed testing and issued some initial alerts.
Brazil is also set to introduce a 24-hour preventive hold on crypto transfers above $10,000, whether in a single transaction or in total daily transfers. (Bitcoin.com News)
