arXiv preprint links 4,224 phishing contracts to 5,742 victim addresses and about $3.48 million in losses
A July 30 arXiv preprint describes a wallet-level phishing technique that abuses transaction simulation to display a small apparent gain while the executed transaction routes funds to an attacker. The authors link the method to 5,742 victim addresses and about $3.48 million in historical losses, with 91.5% attributed to Ethereum and about 83% of cross-chain losses tied to the largest inferred cluster. They report identifying 4,224 related contracts across Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Avalanche and Polygon using a detector called SimGuard.

FXRP approved as collateral in Sentora’s $280M RLUSD main vault on Ethereum
Flare said FXRP, a representation of XRP, has been approved as collateral in Sentora’s RLUSD Main vault on Morpho. The vault holds about $280 million in deposited RLUSD, making it the largest institutionally curated RLUSD vault on Ethereum. The approval marks the first time an XRP representation has been accepted as collateral in an institutionally curated lending vault on Ethereum. XRP holders can now borrow the RLUSD stablecoin permissionlessly on Ethereum mainnet using FXRP collateral.

Bithumb sets 2028 IPO target in third timetable reset
South Korea introduced new rules in March 2026 capping major shareholders of crypto exchanges at 20%, with a transition period. Bithumb, the country’s largest exchange, confirmed in August 2026 that it had pushed its IPO target back to 2028, marking the third timeline change in three years. In February, a system error wrongly credited 620,000 BTC (about $43 billion at the time), briefly sending BTC down 17% on its won market; the exchange has recovered 99.7% of the coins, with about 125 BTC still unresolved. The incident and tighter oversight have underscored uncertainty around the operations and listing paths of South Korean exchanges.

Bitcoin falls 1.3% to $62,591 amid Coldcard wallet hack concerns
Bitcoin fell 1.3% to $62,591 after a serious security flaw was reported in Coldcard hardware wallets that researchers said could have allowed roughly $70 million to be stolen in under an hour. Hardware wallet maker Coinkite issued an urgent recommendation for users to move funds. Bitcoin spot ETFs also saw net outflows on Friday, adding to selling pressure. The incident hit confidence in the security of self-custody and is a typical off-chain infrastructure security event.

Hackers target one of Bitcoin’s safest custody havens as attack remains active
A major cyberattack targeting core Bitcoin custody infrastructure is said to be underway, with the target described as “one of Bitcoin’s safest havens,” according to the headline. No specific institution has been named, and details on the method, the scale of affected assets, or whether any funds were lost have not been disclosed. The report says the incident is still active, raising concerns about the security of professional Bitcoin custody used by institutions and large holders. With BTC the only asset explicitly linked, near-term disruptions could extend to on-chain activity, exchange inflows and outflows, and OTC premiums.
