CFTC Categorizes XRP and Stellar as Digital Commodities Alongside Bitcoin and Ethereum
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has categorized Ripple’s XRP and Stellar’s XLM as digital commodities alongside Bitcoin and Ethereum. The move reflects the CFTC’s stance on how certain digital assets should be classified, but it does not carry formal legal force. Whether XRP is a security still depends on court rulings and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s determination, leaving markets cautious about drawing firm conclusions from a single agency’s statement.

SEC approves Cboe BZX rule change for 3x Bitcoin and Ether leveraged ETPs on Oct. 2
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission approved a Cboe BZX rule change on Oct. 2, clearing the way for 3x leveraged Bitcoin and Ether exchange-traded products. The approval covers six VS Trust funds proposed by Volatility Shares, spanning Bitcoin, Ethereum, gold, silver, crude oil and natural gas. The products are daily-reset leveraged vehicles, a structure that can erode capital for long-term holders. The move marks the first time the SEC has allowed Bitcoin to use the same leverage framework commonly applied to commodities less than three years after its legal dispute with Grayscale over a spot Bitcoin ETF.
