Dalmia Bharat Sugar executive flags 2 million-tonne India sugar gap as import timing looms
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
India is projected to run a ~2 million tonne sugar deficit with low end-season inventories, increasing the likelihood that policy-driven imports will be needed and making timing critical. Weather risks in key cane regions add near-term supply uncertainty. Internationally, slower Brazilian crushing is tightening expectations and has already supported a price rally, though the overall balance remains mixed between raw surplus and white deficit.

A Dalmia Bharat Sugar executive said India’s sugar output estimate has been cut to 37.5–38.5 million tonne, leaving inventories seen at only 5–5.5 million tonne and creating a roughly 2 million-tonne gap. He said recent rains could hurt cane prospects in Uttar Pradesh, while Maharashtra and Karnataka have also faced weak rainfall. With the government watching stocks closely, he said the timing of any imports will be a key policy decision. Globally, he said reduced crushing in Brazil has supported prices, while India is not expected to divert sugar to ethanol until the crop outlook is clearer.
