Global shipping rates set multiple records as capacity tightens across key routes

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Record-high freight and transit rates across major chokepoints (Panama Canal, Rhine, Red Sea/Black Sea, Hormuz-linked rerouting) signal a sharp rise in transport and energy logistics costs. This increases near-term inflation pressure, complicates inventory planning, and heightens supply-chain fragility. For energy markets, longer routes and constrained tanker availability can tighten delivered supply conditions, lifting volatility across crude-linked assets and shipping-sensitive cyclicals.

Freight rates on several major shipping routes have climbed to multiple record highs as capacity tightens. Panama Canal transit fees hit historic peaks, while Rhine barge freight rose to its highest level since 2012. In oil shipping, Gulf-to-Asia freight reached $15.22 per barrel and Black Sea-to-Mediterranean tanker rates also posted their highest levels since at least 2005. Container shipping has also come under pressure, with Far East-to-U.S. East Coast spot rates up 234% year on year to $10,249 per 40-foot container.
