Korean retail investors pivot back to U.S. stocks after KOSPI slides 33% from June peak

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
A sharp 33% KOSPI drawdown and July's 8% KRW appreciation are pushing South Korea's retail "ant" investors back into U.S. equities, with overseas buying exceeding domestic share purchases for the first time since February. The flow shift supports near-term demand for U.S. stocks and U.S.-focused funds, while raising renewed concerns about sustained capital outflows that could become a headwind for Korean assets and the won.

South Korean retail investors are accelerating a shift into U.S. stocks after the KOSPI fell 33% from its June peak and the won strengthened, pushing July buying above the 2025 monthly average. The won rose 8% in July to a nine-month high, and SK Hynix’s $26.5 billion fundraising and partial repatriation also contributed to the move. Some inflows still went to Korea-linked ETFs, but the amounts were far smaller than the money headed into U.S. equities.
