SpaceX strikes low-band spectrum deal to expand Starlink Mobile in US, telecom shares slide after hours

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
SpaceX's agreement to buy nationwide low-band spectrum, alongside US approval to deploy up to 15,000 direct-to-smartphone satellites, signals a credible push to become a US mobile carrier. The announcement triggered sharp after-hours declines in incumbent telcos, reflecting heightened competitive and pricing pressure risk. Near-term market focus is likely to shift toward spectrum economics, regulatory follow-through, and potential disruption to carrier network advantages.

SpaceX said it will use newly acquired spectrum and its second-generation constellation to offer high-speed mobile broadband across the US through Starlink Mobile, claiming capacity of more than 100 times its current satellite fleet. US regulators approved this week the launch of up to 15,000 new satellites designed to connect directly to ordinary smartphones. After the announcement, shares of major US telecom carriers fell sharply in after-hours trading.
