Thailand SEC to Allow Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs to List on the Stock Exchange

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Thailand's SEC finalized rules allowing locally listed crypto ETFs on the Thailand Stock Exchange, initially limited to Bitcoin and Ethereum, effective Oct 16, 2026. The framework requires passive tracking with at least 80% average net exposure to a single coin, bans margin financing, and mandates SEC-regulated digital asset custody. While retail access to overseas crypto ETFs remains restricted, the move broadens onshore institutional and fund demand channels.

Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has finalized rules that will allow cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to be listed and traded on the Stock Exchange of Thailand, with eligibility initially limited to Bitcoin and Ethereum. The regulations take effect on October 16, 2026. At the outset, depositary receipts and other instruments tied to overseas crypto ETFs will not be permitted. Thai securities firms remain barred from helping retail investors invest in overseas crypto ETFs. The restriction does not apply to institutional investors or ultra-high-net-worth individuals. Mutual funds and private funds will be allowed to invest in crypto ETFs established in Thailand. Under the framework, the ETF must follow a passive strategy that tracks the price of the underlying crypto asset. It must maintain an average net exposure of at least 80% of net asset value to a single cryptocurrency over each fiscal year. Brokers are not allowed to offer margin financing, and fund assets must be held with an SEC-regulated digital asset custodian. (Cointelegraph)
