South Korea Sets Rules Allowing Courts to Seize, Sell Bitcoin for Unpaid Debts From Nov. 1
South Korea's Supreme Court has promulgated Rule 3280, establishing standardized procedures for courts to freeze, transfer and liquidate digital assets in order to recover unpaid debts. The rules cover cryptocurrencies held in exchange accounts and in private wallets. They take effect in November and apply to cases already before the courts, with existing attachment and preservation orders remaining valid. It marks South Korea's first clear judicial enforcement process for disposing of digital assets.
