Russia says second domestically built Arc7 LNG ice-class carrier is ready for commissioning on Thursday

Russia’s second domestically built ice-class LNG carrier is ready to enter service, with a commissioning ceremony scheduled for Thursday, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said. The vessel, named the Konstantin Posiet, is to be commissioned at the Zvezda shipyard in Russia’s far eastern Primorsky region. The Arc7-class ships are designed to transport LNG from Russia’s Arctic projects to Asian and other markets year-round, navigating through harsh conditions. Zvezda was expected to build 15 tankers for the Arctic LNG2 project, but sanctions linked to the conflict in Ukraine have led to delays, Mishustin said.
