Bill Walker says Alaska LNG reached a pivotal stage after 2015 asset transfer and a $30 billion China prepayment proposal
Alaska governor candidate Bill Walker recounts his role in advancing the Alaska LNG project, arguing it represents the state’s most significant infrastructure opportunity since the trans-Alaska oil pipeline system. He says his administration kept the project alive in 2015 by transferring about $500 million in project assets and work product to the Alaska Gasline Development Corp. at no cost to the state, and later marketed Alaska LNG in Asia with support from President Donald Trump’s administration. Walker adds that China at the time agreed in principle to a $30 billion prepayment for services and to take 75% of LNG capacity without project ownership, and he argues renewed federal support now puts the project into a substantive push forward.
