PSPCL reports over ₹10 crore in losses from transformer component thefts in Ludhiana in 2025–26

A Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) report shows 2,443 cases of transformer-part theft in the Central Zone in FY2025–26, with incidents concentrated in suburban Ludhiana and the Khanna circle. The utility put the losses at more than ₹10 crore, with copper windings, aluminium components and transformer oil among the most frequently stolen items. The thefts left 168 transformers damaged and disrupted electricity supply in rural and agricultural areas. Officials said the pattern suggests organised gangs targeting isolated equipment because of strong scrap-market demand.
