Price Bailey warns legacy turnover-rent leases could raise retailers’ costs amid Brent Cross–John Lewis dispute
London’s Brent Cross shopping centre and John Lewis are in a legal dispute over whether click-and-collect sales should be included in turnover-rent calculations. Price Bailey said that if a court finds such sales should be counted, retailers’ effective rent bills could rise. The firm cited data showing nearly 79,500 UK retail companies have negative net assets, with 52% in the highest insolvency-risk category, up 19% from last year.
