Democratic senators urge Trump to let Russian-oil sanctions waiver expire on June 17
Democratic Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Elizabeth Warren urged President Donald Trump not to extend a U.S. sanctions waiver that allows countries including India to buy Russian oil, which expires on June 17. They said the waiver was originally issued to steady global oil markets after the U.S.-Iran war that began on February 28 pushed crude prices sharply higher. The senators argued that the conflict with Iran has ended and that continuing the waiver would only help Russia finance its war in Ukraine.
