Alaska LNG project signs preliminary gas sales deal with Chugach Electric for 800-mile pipeline phase
The Alaska LNG project has signed a letter of intent with Chugach Electric Association, Anchorage’s largest power provider, to negotiate potential natural gas sales. The move is aimed at securing in-state buyers for the project’s first phase, an 800-mile gas pipeline estimated to cost up to $17 billion. The project has not made a final investment decision and has not signed binding gas purchase-and-sale agreements, though Alaska’s House of Representatives has approved a tax bill the project says could save developers more than $800 million annually. Project officials have said they plan to begin supplying gas to Alaskans by 2029 and to start exporting LNG to Asia by 2031.
