Strategy rebuffs MSCI index-screen proposal as $2.8 billion passive-selling risk weighs on MSTR

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
MSCI is consulting on stricter financial-statement screens to flag "nonoperating" companies, potentially removing Strategy from major indexes and prompting an estimated $2.8B in passive MSTR selling. The risk centers on reduced equity-market support for Bitcoin-treasury firms, potentially compressing valuation premia that have historically helped fund BTC accumulation. Strategy has recently sold over 6,000 BTC, adding sensitivity to funding and liquidity perceptions ahead of an October decision.

MSCI has floated tighter screening rules that could remove Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) from major equity indexes, a change that could trigger an estimated $2.8 billion in passive-fund selling. MSTR fell about 2% in premarket trading after the proposal surfaced. Strategy said its convertible notes and at-the-market (ATM) program provide ample capacity to acquire capital and that it does not depend on MSCI. The consultation runs through Aug. 21, and the outcome could set a precedent for companies that hold large Bitcoin positions.
