McDonald’s hit with federal antitrust suit over AI pricing tool shared with U.S. franchisees

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
McDonald's faces a federal antitrust lawsuit alleging its AI-enhanced pricing tool shares nonpublic, store-level sales data among franchisees, potentially enabling algorithmic price-fixing and lifting U.S. menu prices. Management disputes the claims, stating franchisees set prices and tools are optional. The case introduces legal and regulatory overhang around data-driven pricing practices and could raise compliance scrutiny and litigation costs for the company.

McDonald’s is facing a federal antitrust lawsuit over an AI-enhanced pricing tool that allegedly shares nonpublic sales data with franchisees who may compete in the same market. The suit, filed Friday in Illinois, says the system uses artificial intelligence to gather store-level information that competing operators typically would not share. McDonald’s says franchisees set menu prices and that the tools are optional and do not coordinate or fix pricing. Separately, CEO Chris Kempczinski said only 60% of U.S. restaurants offer the company’s proposed 10-item menu priced under $3.
