AI data centres squeeze memory supply, pushing consumer tech prices higher

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
AI data-center buildouts are diverting DRAM/NAND capacity toward high-bandwidth memory, tightening supply for consumer electronics and driving sharp memory price inflation. OEMs (e.g., Samsung, Apple, Microsoft) are passing costs through via device price hikes and delayed launches, implying margin pressure and demand elasticity risk in low-end hardware. The bottleneck also reinforces the strategic value of AI-server supply chains where HBM is a critical input.

Surging demand from AI servers is soaking up DRAM and NAND memory, triggering a global shortage and sharp price increases for chips used in consumer electronics. A 16GB RAM chip that once cost as little as $4.76 is now close to $60 as of June, according to the WA Data Science Innovation Hub (WADSIH). Samsung has already raised prices for phones and tablets, with higher-storage versions up to $115 more expensive, while Valve priced its Steam Machine at $US1,049 ($1,511) in June, well above earlier industry estimates.
