ASX 200 energy stocks rose 2.39% as the benchmark fell 2.94% to a 10-week low

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Middle East escalation and fears of disrupted shipping routes, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, drove a sharp jump in energy prices (Brent and WTI +12%) and lifted gas benchmarks. The shock supported energy equities even as the ASX 200 sold off to a 10-week low. Higher oil-linked inflation expectations also pushed bond yields up and increased perceived odds of near-term rate hikes, tightening broader risk conditions.

ASX 200 energy shares rose 2.39% last week, bucking a 2.94% drop in the broader market to a 10-week low. Brent and WTI crude both jumped 12%, topping US$108 and US$103, while UK, German and broader European gas prices also climbed sharply. Concerns that shipping through the Strait of Hormuz could be disrupted — affecting about 20% of global oil and gas transport — helped fuel the surge in energy prices.
