Dollar General CEO says $100,000 earners are bargain-hunting as inflation persists
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Dollar General's CEO highlighted broad-based inflation pressure, noting even $100k households are trading down, while low-income shoppers materially change behavior once gasoline exceeds $4/gal. AAA data show sharply higher gasoline and diesel prices, raising freight costs and reinforcing cost-of-living headwinds. The message signals tighter discretionary demand and greater sensitivity to energy-driven inflation, with near-term focus on crude-linked inflation inputs and consumer spending resilience.

Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos told the Goldman Sachs Global Consumer and Retail Conference that even consumers making $100,000 a year or more are feeling inflation pressure. He said Dollar General’s core customers—those earning less than $45,000 a year—shift their shopping habits when gas reaches $4 a gallon. National average gasoline is now $4.476 a gallon versus $3.189 a year ago, while diesel has climbed to $6.50, raising truck-transport costs, according to AAA.
