Commonwealth Bank and Westpac lift home loan rates by 25 basis points from October 9

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Australia's major banks (CBA, Westpac, Macquarie) passing through the RBA's 25bp hike tightens household financial conditions and raises mortgage servicing costs, despite large offset balances and still-low arrears. The news highlights ongoing policy restraint amid resilient activity, increasing sensitivity to consumption and housing. Near-term, it reinforces higher-rate risk premia across AUD assets and can weigh on domestic growth expectations.

Commonwealth Bank and Westpac have followed Macquarie in passing the Reserve Bank’s 25-basis-point rate rise on to mortgage customers. The move adds to borrowers’ costs after three rate rises earlier this year. Australian Prudential Regulation Authority data show total offset account balances stood at A$340 billion for the June quarter, down from the March quarter.
