Berkshire Hathaway ends Q1 with $397 billion cash pile, giving Greg Abel room for buybacks or a major acquisition

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Berkshire ended Q1 with a record $397B in cash, cash equivalents, and short-term Treasuries, signaling a highly defensive balance sheet and substantial optionality for buybacks or acquisitions. The large reduction in Apple and other equity stakes appears framed as portfolio rebalancing rather than a directional catalyst. Near term, the main takeaway is potential capital allocation flexibility versus ongoing cash-drag on returns.

Berkshire Hathaway held $397 billion in cash, cash equivalents and short-term U.S. Treasuries at the end of the first quarter. The company has cut its Apple stake by more than 75% since 2024, dropping from a peak of more than 915 million shares to 228 million shares at quarter-end. Its currently disclosed holding stands at 514 million shares. The move is framed as portfolio rebalancing rather than a one-way price catalyst for either Apple or Berkshire.
