Security firm Blockaid has flagged a fresh exploit targeting the Verus–Ethereum Bridge, where an attacker abused the bridge's import path to trigger unbacked payouts on the Ethereum side. The incident drained about $7.54 million worth of ETH, tBTC, USDC, USDT, EURC, MKR and scrvUSD, which were later swapped into ETH.
Blockaid said the latest breach used the same bridge contract, entry path and vulnerability class as the roughly $11.5 million exploit in May, but appears to have been carried out by a different attacker using a new wallet.
In the prior incident on May 18, the stolen funds were converted into around 5,402.4 ETH. The attacker later returned 4,052.4 ETH after keeping a 25% whitehat bounty, and the recovered assets were redeposited into the bridge on July 8.
