UK House of Lords votes to require Treasury digital assets strategy
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
The UK House of Lords backed an amendment that would require HM Treasury to publish and consult on a digital assets strategy within 12 months, explicitly covering Bitcoin, broader crypto, and banking-rail access. While the House of Commons can still amend or reject the measure, the vote signals rising policy focus and potential regulatory clarity, which can improve institutional engagement and reduce uncertainty for UK-facing crypto businesses.

The UK House of Lords has backed a proposal to make a national digital assets strategy mandatory, approving Amendment 88 during the Report Stage of the Financial Services and Markets Bill by 194 votes to 138, despite objections from Labour.
The amendment, tabled by Baroness Neville-Rolfe, would require HM Treasury to publish and consult on a strategy within 12 months of royal assent. The plan would cover Bitcoin and other digital assets, as well as access to banking rails.
The House of Commons can still accept the amendment, revise it, or reject it.
