U.S. NCUA Proposes Adding 26 Stablecoin Data Fields to Credit Union Quarterly Reports
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
The NCUA's proposal to add 26 stablecoin-related fields to credit unions' quarterly Form 5300 signals tightening supervisory oversight of reserve assets, custody controls, issuer exposures, and balance-sheet stablecoin holdings. While implementation is targeted for 2027 and remains subject to public comment, the reporting framework could raise compliance costs and increase transparency for regulated institutions engaging in stablecoin activities, shaping near-term regulatory risk sentiment across crypto markets.

The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) on Oct. 9 issued a proposal to introduce a dedicated stablecoin reporting section for federally insured credit unions. The plan would add 26 new data fields to the quarterly Form 5300 financial report for institutions involved in stablecoin-related activities, targeting implementation on March 31, 2027.
Under the proposal, eight fields would cover reserve assets held on behalf of authorized third-party issuers, nine would address cryptocurrency key custody and control, five would track credit unions' financial exposure to issuers, and four would capture payment stablecoins recorded on institutional balance sheets.
The NCUA estimates the information collection would apply to 4,224 federally insured credit unions, with an annual reporting burden of 794,112 hours, averaging 47 hours per completed quarterly report. Public comments will be accepted through Dec. 8, and submissions will be made publicly available as part of the application approval process. (Bitcoin.com News)
