Odaily Planet Daily reports that U.S. President Donald Trump has again pressed for U.S. interest rates to be cut to 1% or below, saying cheaper borrowing would encourage business investment, lower the government's debt-servicing costs, and strengthen the competitiveness of the U.S. economy.
The Federal Reserve raised its target range for the federal funds rate by 25 basis points to 3.75%–4.00% on September 16, its first increase since July 2023. After the move, Boston Fed President Susan Collins said she supported the hike, arguing inflation risks remain above the Fed's 2% goal and policy needs to stay somewhat restrictive to secure a sustained decline in inflation, Reuters reported.
