TRM Labs: AI-Fueled Crypto Crime Up 40% Year on Year, Driven Mainly by Scams

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
TRM Labs reports a 40% YoY rise in AI-enabled crypto crime, with record H1 2026 hacking incidents and losses concentrated in a small number of major breaches. North Korea-linked activity drove ~$600m, or 61% of total losses. While AI is not creating new crime types, it is lowering attack barriers and scaling social engineering and exploit discovery, reinforcing security and regulatory overhang for the broader crypto market.

TRM Labs' latest report, cited by The Block, finds that the use of artificial intelligence in cryptocurrency-related crime rose 40% from a year earlier, with scam activity as the main driver. The firm said crypto attackers are increasingly applying AI to vulnerability research, social engineering, and intrusion efforts. In the first half of 2026, the sector recorded 201 digital-asset hacking incidents, the highest number on record. About 75% of total losses were concentrated in just 4% of those cases. TRM Labs also attributed roughly $600 million in losses to North Korea-linked activity, representing 61% of all losses in the first half. The report added that AI is not creating entirely new categories of crime, but it is lowering the barrier to entry and enabling attacks to be carried out at greater scale.
