The Sandbox's SAND token on Base hit by "infinite mint" flaw; over 500 million tokens already created
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Onchain data indicates The Sandbox's SAND token on Base may be experiencing an "infinite mint" vulnerability, with over 500 million tokens reportedly minted and the exploit potentially ongoing. This implies abrupt, uncontrolled supply expansion and dilution risk, alongside heightened counterparty and bridge/contract-permission concerns for Base-deployed SAND liquidity. The absence of an official response leaves uncertainty around root cause, attacker access, and distribution of newly minted tokens.

Aug. 22 (UTC+8) — The Sandbox's native token SAND on Coinbase's Base network is facing a serious security issue that appears to have granted an attacker minting rights, enabling the creation of new SAND tokens at will, according to market sources cited by ME News.
Onchain data indicates more than 500 million SAND have already been minted, with the exploit reportedly still in progress. The rapid expansion in supply has fueled worries of heavy dilution pressure that could weigh on SAND's market price.
The Sandbox has not issued an official statement. The root cause of the vulnerability, how the attacker obtained the privileges, and where the newly minted tokens are being sent have not been confirmed.
So-called "infinite mint" attacks typically stem from weaknesses in smart-contract access controls or minting logic, allowing bad actors to bypass limits and generate large quantities of tokens, leading to runaway supply growth and market dilution.
