South32 hits a 10-year high after sharp run-up; market watches next steps
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
South32 hit a 10-year high after FY2026 production beat multiple guidance metrics, reinforcing near-term operational momentum. Investor focus also centers on its proposed sale of most of its aluminium value-chain assets to Alcoa and transfer of sizeable rehabilitation provisions, which would simplify the portfolio and pivot the company toward base and precious metals. The news supports a positive re-rating but leaves execution and deal-risk in focus.

South32 shares rose 2.6% on Monday to A$5.09, marking their highest level in a decade. The stock has gained 30% over the past month, is up 43% year-to-date in 2026, and has rallied 72% over the last 12 months.
Momentum follows the company's July release of FY2026 production figures, which beat several pieces of guidance and pointed to strong output across key operations.
South32 is also pursuing a portfolio overhaul, proposing to sell its aluminium value-chain businesses—excluding the Mozal aluminium smelter—to Alcoa for up to US$5.6 billion. The deal would also shift roughly US$1.2 billion in rehabilitation provisions. If completed, the company would pivot into a more focused base and precious metals producer.
