BlockBeats news: August 9 — Brokerage data show South Korean retail investors bought $4.6 billion of U.S. equities in July, up 627% month over month and marking the biggest monthly net buying since January 2026. By comparison, they were net sellers in April and May, offloading $469 million and $940 million, respectively.
July's purchases also topped the 2025 monthly average of $2.7 billion. In 2025, South Korean retail investors' buying of U.S. stocks more than tripled from 2024 levels. As a result, retail investors last month purchased more U.S. shares than domestic stocks for the first time since February.
The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) has fallen 33% from its June peak, with roughly 75% of the decline attributed to losses in the shares of the two major chipmakers, Samsung and SK Hynix.
