S&P 500 Ends at Fresh Record; 85.1% of Reporting Firms Top Estimates

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
U.S. equities pushed to a record close as weaker-than-expected July payrolls and sharp downward revisions reduced perceived near-term Fed tightening odds, easing rate-sensitive discounting. Earnings momentum reinforced risk appetite: 85.1% of S&P 500 reporters beat estimates versus a long-run 68% average. Near term, the mix supports broad equity multiples and cyclical positioning while keeping macro focus on labor-market cooling and policy repricing.

The S&P 500 notched a record close on Aug. 7, rising 0.62%, as investors weighed a weaker-than-expected U.S. jobs report and strong corporate earnings. Reuters reported that U.S. nonfarm payrolls fell by 23,000 in July, against economists' expectations for an increase of 80,000. Job gains for the prior two months were also revised sharply lower. After the data, the market-implied probability of a Federal Reserve rate hike in September slipped to about 44%, down from 55% in the previous session. Earnings results continued to underpin sentiment. Of the 436 S&P 500 companies that had reported by Friday morning, 85.1% beat analysts' expectations, well above the 68% historical average since 1994.
