Anthropic Taps Riot Platforms in $9.1B Power Deal for AI Data Center Capacity

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Anthropic's reported $9.1B long-dated compute/power contract with Riot Platforms signals accelerating AI infrastructure demand and validates bitcoin miners' pivot toward higher-multiple data center and cloud services. Riot's 191MW, 20-year agreement (with extension options) improves revenue visibility and reduces reliance on BTC mining economics, driving a sharp after-hours equity re-rating and potentially supporting broader sentiment across AI-power and mining-to-HPC conversion plays.

Aug. 11 — Anthropic has reached a $9.1 billion computing and data center power agreement with Bitcoin miner Riot Platforms to support rising demand tied to growth in users of its Claude AI models, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Riot said Monday it will supply 191 megawatts of computing power to an AI developer at its Rockdale, Texas campus under a 20-year contract running through June 2048. Sources identified Anthropic as the customer. Riot added that the deal includes two separate five-year extension options. If both are exercised, the maximum total contract value would rise to $16.1 billion. Following the disclosure, BIT market data showed Riot shares jumped 25% in after-hours trading to $24.40. Anthropic has recently signed multiple large-scale capacity agreements, including a previously announced $10 billion contract with Volta Infra Holdings and a May deal to purchase nearly $45 billion in computing power from Elon Musk's xAI. Riot, historically focused on Bitcoin mining, has been shifting toward providing AI and cloud computing infrastructure services.
