Chilean crypto exchange Orionx has halted withdrawals and is winding down after a forensic audit alleged ~$7M in misused customer funds, alongside criminal charges against founders and scrutiny from Chile's market regulator. The event reinforces counterparty and regulatory risk in offshore/less-regulated venues, likely weighing on regional crypto sentiment and prompting short-term risk-off positioning across major coins as users reassess exchange credit quality.

Orionx, a Chilean cryptocurrency exchange, has halted withdrawals and is moving toward a phased shutdown after a forensic audit found that more than $7 million had been transferred to wallets it controlled, according to Odaily Planet Daily citing a Bitcoin News post on X.
The company has filed criminal complaints against its founders, Joaquín Díaz and Roberto Zibert, accusing them of using client assets for external transactions between 2018 and 2021.
Chile's Financial Market Commission said Orionx continued operating even after its fintech business license application was rejected in July. The exchange has more than 100,000 users, and there is no assurance customers will recover their assets in full.
