Harmony Hit by Exploit as Attacker Illegally Mints About 4 Billion ONE Tokens
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Harmony reportedly suffered a protocol exploit enabling the illegal minting of ~4B ONE (about 26% of supply), with billions quickly moved to exchanges amid a sharp selloff. The claimed mismatch between onchain supply and Harmony's public totalSupply endpoint raises transparency and trust concerns. Harmony's efforts to freeze funds and pursue patch/rollback options may limit contagion, but near-term liquidity and confidence risks are elevated.

ChainThink said on Aug. 12 that on-chain data cited by X user Juiceberg indicates the Harmony protocol was exploited, allowing an attacker to mint roughly 4 billion ONE tokens via empty blocks—about 26% of total supply. As the token price fell, around 2.8 billion ONE were quickly moved to exchanges.
Juiceberg added that Harmony's totalSupply endpoint did not reflect the unauthorized issuance, creating a gap between the actual on-chain supply and publicly reported figures. Harmony said it is coordinating with its team and relevant exchanges to block and freeze the linked funds, while evaluating patch and rollback options.
