Glassnode data show privacy coins as the only top-200 sector above Bitcoin's Oct-2025 peak, up 213% over 12 months, with market cap rising from $7.1B to $33.6B and $13B added in the last 30 days. Zcash is the dominant driver (2,496% YTD; ~62% of sector cap), implying strong relative momentum but elevated concentration risk for the category.

Privacy-focused cryptocurrencies have been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise weak crypto market this year. Since Bitcoin's October 2025 peak, the privacy-coin sector has climbed 213%, making it the only segment in Glassnode's sector framework still trading above those levels. Over the same period, Bitcoin is down 36%. The median top-200 crypto asset has dropped 58%, DeFi is off 27%, and gaming tokens have fallen 74%.
Glassnode data released September 7, 2026 show the combined market capitalization of privacy coins within the top 200 has expanded from $7.1B to $33.6B over the past 12 months. The move has accelerated recently, with roughly $13B of the increase coming in the last 30 days. During that 30-day span, the privacy sector gained 90%, alongside a broader rebound that pushed 91.5% of top-200 assets higher.
Zcash has been the clear leader. ZEC is up 2,496% year-to-date, rising from 82nd in overall market-cap rankings to 7th. It now represents about 62% of the privacy sector's total market value.
Even without Zcash, privacy coins have outperformed. A market-cap-weighted portfolio of the remaining privacy assets is up 85% over the past year, and remains 56% higher when measured from Bitcoin's October 2025 high. Glassnode notes that only four assets in the top 200 are trading above their October 2025 prices: Zcash, Monero, and two others. All eight privacy coins with at least a year of price history have posted gains over that period.
Monero has been the other key support for the group. XMR is among the small set of assets still above its October 2025 price, extending a pattern of relative strength that emerged during the late-2025 volatility.
Glassnode points to the market turbulence in October and November 2025 as a potential catalyst. Privacy coins held up better than most sectors during that drawdown, which may have drawn incremental capital that later compounded into the current rally. ZEC's surge from a mid-pack ranking into the top 10 underscores how quickly narratives can reprice within a single crypto cycle.
The report also highlights concentration risk. With ZEC accounting for 62% of sector market cap, a meaningful pullback in Zcash could materially sway headline performance for the entire category. At $33.6B, the sector's valuation is heavily reliant on an asset that has expanded to roughly $20B in market value after being a fraction of that size a year ago.
