Fidelity Files SEC Amendment to Enable Staking Rewards for FETH Spot Ethereum ETF
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Fidelity has filed to let its spot Ethereum ETF (FETH) stake underlying ETH and distribute staking rewards, shifting the fund from pure price tracking to an index-plus-yield objective pending SEC effectiveness. Approval would deepen the institutional wrapper around ETH's native yield and could intensify competition among issuers (with similar proposals from peers). The filing also highlights operational risks such as slashing and unstaking liquidity constraints that could affect redemptions.

On Aug. 11, Fidelity filed a pre-effective amendment with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) seeking approval to integrate staking rewards into its Fidelity Ethereum Fund (FETH). According to the filing, the Boston-based asset manager intends to stake up to 100% of the trust's Ether holdings through custodians including Anchorage Digital, BitGo, and Fidelity Digital Assets. This shift would transition FETH into a yield-bearing vehicle, aiming to outperform the Fidelity Ethereum Reference Rate by distributing quarterly cash rewards to shareholders. The proposal follows similar moves by Grayscale and BlackRock as issuers navigate a post-2024 regulatory landscape. Fidelity noted that while rewards would be treated as income, risks such as slashing and liquidity constraints during unstaking remain. The changes are pending SEC effectiveness and would mark a significant evolution for U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs.
