Ethereum Hits Two-Month High as Altcoin Market Cap Tops $1 Trillion

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Ethereum broke above $2,000 and hit a two-month high after the U.S. Treasury doubled its bond buyback program to $4B, reinforcing liquidity expectations. ETH market cap rose to ~$251B and the broader altcoin complex pushed above $1T, with notable gains in ZEC, SOL, and XRP. Elevated liquidations in BTC shorts and upcoming Treasury auction/buyback schedules are now key for near-term risk conditions.

Ethereum climbed above the $2,000 level on August 19, 2026, setting a two-month high and lifting sentiment across the altcoin complex. ETH reached an intraday peak of $2,112, a move of nearly 10% within hours, after spending the period since August 8 largely below $1,900. The advance followed a U.S. Department of the Treasury announcement that it will double its government bond buyback program to as much as $4 billion, a step traders interpreted as supportive for liquidity conditions. Ethereum's market capitalization rose from below $230 billion to about $251 billion during the same session. Altcoins moved in tandem, with the combined market capitalization of the sector pushing back above $1 trillion for the first time in nearly a month. Zcash (ZEC) led notable movers, gaining 9% from $503 to as high as $557, taking its valuation to $9.3 billion and moving ahead of Monero (XMR), which slipped 0.9% over the period. Large-cap tokens also strengthened, with Solana (SOL) and XRP up more than 6% on the day. Stellar (XLM) added 7.5%, while Tron (TRX) edged down 0.7% by the close. MN Fund Chief Investment Officer Michaël van de Poppe described Ethereum's setup as a meaningful technical breakout. He said holding above $2,000 could keep the door open to successive resistance areas at $2,250 and $2,465, with an extended target near $2,900. Macro flows remain in focus. Traders are also watching a wave of short liquidations, including more than $1.3 billion in Bitcoin shorts on the same date. The U.S. Treasury's forthcoming auction calendar and debt buyback schedule are expected to shape liquidity conditions and, in turn, the durability of key support levels in the weeks ahead.
