South Korea sees inverse "Kimchi Premium" dominate crypto market for first time this year

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
South Korea's Kimchi Premium turning negative more often than positive signals weakened domestic crypto demand versus offshore markets. The sustained inverse premium suggests local capital rotation into equities, tighter regulatory friction, and tax-related overhangs reducing marginal inflows. Near term, this can dampen Korean spot bid support for BTC and ETH and may narrow regional price dislocations, lowering opportunities tied to Korea-led premium expansions.

For the first time this year, days when South Korea's so-called "Kimchi Premium" turned negative outnumbered days of positive premiums, according to Yonhap News. CryptoQuant data show Bitcoin posted a negative Kimchi Premium on 123 of the 221 days recorded so far this year. In early August, Bitcoin's average Kimchi Premium stood at 0.48%, while Ethereum's averaged 0.49%. The market also saw a record stretch of 35 straight days of negative premiums from June 20 through July 24. The deepening inverse premium is being linked to stronger gains in South Korea's stock market diverting funds, tighter regulation limiting fresh inflows, and the approaching rollout of cryptocurrency taxation.
